Flash flood watch extended for southern counties

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service said Sunday it is continuing a flash flood watch for McDowell and Wyoming counties because of heavy rain in the area.

A special weather statement was also issued for Mingo County because of the precipitation, and the agency has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Greenbrier, Monroe and Summers counties.

Heavy rain swept through southern West Virginia yesterday.

“This could lead to flash flooding, particularly along flood prone creeks. and streams, and adjacent low lying areas,” a NWS statement said.

The watch is scheduled to go through this evening.
