Mountaineers land Illinois tight end pledge for 2018

Mike O’Laughlin made 54 receptions for 939 yards and eight receiving touchdowns as a high school junior.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After approaching a 1,000-yard receiving season as a high school junior receiver, Mike O’Laughlin gained momentum as a college tight end recruit.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound O’Laughlin committed to West Virginia late Saturday, spurning offers from Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan and a host of mid-major programs.

O’Laughlin made 54 catches for 939 yards and eight touchdowns last season at Fenwick High in Oak Park, Ill., helping the Friars reach the Class 7A state semifinals.

He becomes the third pledge for WVU’s 2018 class.
