Governor signs Sunday Hunting legislation

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Jim Justice on Tuesday signed legislation enacting the law to authorize Sunday hunting on private land statewide in West Virginia.

Lawmakers passed the bill late in the 2017 session. At the time of passage Sunday hunting on private land was already authorized in 33 of the state’s 55 counties via county-by-county referendum.

Hunters will be required to acquire written permission of landowners to hunt legally on Sunday.   The provision does not extend to public lands for Sunday hunting.

The measure takes effect 90 days from the passage of the bill, which will be July 6th.
