Driver involved in Interstate 64 wreck dies

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A man whose car fell more than 80 feet off an Interstate 64 bridge earlier this month passed away Friday, according to his family.

Jerrell Simmons, 70, died from brain damage suffered from the crash, which began affecting other organs.

Simmons was involved in a five-vehicle accident on April 7 near the mile 6 marker in Huntington. According to authorities on the scene, Simmons’ car was pushed off the side of a bridge.

The Huntington Police Department said the accident was likely the result of a driver under the influence of heroin.
