Man takes own life following Kanawha County domestic dispute

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. —  A suspect in a domestic dispute shot himself after authorities found him in a Sissonville area home, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

Craig Holcomb killed himself as police moved in Tuesday.

Deputies arrived to a home on Call Road following a call from the victim’s friend.

“She could not call 911 for herself,” said Sgt. Brian Humphreys with the county sheriff’s department. “Her boyfriend was threatening to kill law enforcement or threatening to kill her if they responded.”

Authorities identified the man as Craig Holcomb, 41, of Maysel.

Humphreys said when deputies arrived on the scene, he went into the home and exited through the back door of the building, running into nearby woods. Holcomb then ran into a separate home.

“Two troopers went inside and found him in the bathroom,” he said.

Humphreys said once the officers identified themselves, Holcomb spoke a few words before shooting himself in the head.

Holcomb was out on bail for wanton endangerment charges in Clay County. In January, Holcomb allegedly fired multiple shots at a mobile home.

He was with William Belknap at the time. Belknap’s body was found in woods near Blue Knob Road in Maysel.
