GRAFTON, W.Va. — A Lewis County woman who left two pills outside the Pruntytown State Prison in Taylor County for a former boyfriend was sentenced to 2-10 years in state prison Tuesday.
Cara Dawn James, 51, of Jane Lew, was arrested last November by state police two months after she put an Oxycodone pill and Xanax pill into a Tic Tac package and left it by the back steps at Pruntytown. James said she was following the instructions of Denver Wooten whom she had visited at the prison on his birthday, Sept. 18.
James said Wooten kept telling her he was in pain and needed the pills. He told her to put them in the Tic Tac package and drop them off behind the building when she left. James said she did but felt guilty and circled around the building to pick up the package but a guard was coming and she got scared and drove away.
James told Taylor County Circuit Judge Alan Moats the decision she made that day ruined her life. She said she’s sorry she allowed Wooten to talk her into committing the crime. She said it was totally out of character. Moats handed down the 2-10 year sentence.
Wooten previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy for his role in the drop-off and was sentenced to 1-5 years in prison.
Taylor County Prosecutor John Bord is prosecuting 11 other drug smuggling related cases in connection with the Pruntytown facility.
