Ohio woman found guilty in fraud scheme that included crime in Gilmer County

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A federal jury convicted an Ohio woman on counts of mail and wire fraud after she conspired with her son to file false tax returns in multiple states using collected names, birth dates, and social security numbers.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia, Debra Skipper, 60, of Euclid, Ohio, conspired with her son Tyree Skipper. The scheme included collecting information from federal inmates.

Tyree Skipper previously pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud in February 2017.

At least one of the crimes in question occurred in Gilmer County between December 2012 and May 2013.

The jury found Debra Skipper guilty following a two-day trial.

She faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each count.
