HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The woman who allegedly caused an April fatal car crash turned herself in Monday, according to the Huntington Police Department.
Elizabeth Lewis, 40, of Ashland, was charged with DUI causing death.
Police said Lewis was the driver of the car responsible for the April 7 wreck near the 4-mile marker. A vehicle was pushed off a bridge over Spring Valley Drive, falling more than 80 feet.
The driver, Jerrell Simmons, died on April 28 from his injuries.
A passenger in Lewis’ car told police they had been using drugs. Court records said emergency medical personnel determined she was suffering from an opioid overdose. They administered narcan.
The complaint stated she also struggled with personnel at the hospital, and at one point had to be restrained.
Lewis’ license had been revoked for DUI in 2009, and she was previously convicted for suspended revoked license for DUI in 2011.
Her bond was set at $750,000 cash only.
