Volunteer firefighter charged with arson

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. — An 18-year-old volunteer firefighter is free on $10,000 bond after being charged with intentionally setting two fires in Morgan County earlier this year.

Alex Gloyd, of Great Cacapon, was arrested last Friday by investigators with the state Fire Marshal’s Office. The criminal complaint alleges Gloyd set a house on fire in Paw Paw on Feb. 6 and started a wildland fire on Milo Road in Morgan County on March 5.

He’s charged with first-degree arson and willfully and maliciously setting fire to land. Gloyd was on both calls as a volunteer firefighter, investigators said.

He’s a member of the Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Department and an honorary member of the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department.

Several agencies assisted the state Fire Marshal’s Office in the investigation.
