Son of West Virginia AD joining Akron as invited walk-on

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown High linebacker Cameron Lyons, the son of West Virginia athletics director Shane Lyons, plans to attend Akron as an invited walk-on.

After enduring an injury-riddled senior season in which the Mohigans reached the Class AAA state semifinals, Lyons underwent surgeries on both shoulders. He’s rehabbing both injuries and likely will redshirt next season.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Lyons visited Akron twice previously and Zips coach Terry Bowden recently extended a walk-on invitation.
