Shots reportedly fired during Fayette County protest

OAK HILL, W.Va. — No injuries were reported after shots were allegedly fired during a protest Saturday in Fayette County.

According to Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley, a caller identifying himself as Danny Webb called dispatchers around 1 p.m. about shots being fired by fracking protesters.

“Dispatchers at the 911 Center could reportedly hear shots being discharged in the background while speaking with Mr. Webb,” Fridley said.

Authorities with the sheriff’s and the Oak Hill Police departments responded to the scene. Around 30 protestors were protesting the disposal of fracking waste on property owned by Danny Webb Construction Company.

Webb told officers shots were fired by protestors, while protesters said Webb allegedly fired several shots in the air.

The protest was reportedly organized by the “Headwaters Defense” organization.

Deputies did not find any firearms or expended shell casings at the scene.

No arrests were made.
