Case of accused armed robbers headed to grand jury

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County magistrate ruled Monday there was enough evidence to forward first-degree robbery charges against four Indiana men to a grand jury for possible indictments.

The men, all from Indianapolis, were arrested May 6 a few minutes after a robbery had been reported at the CVS Pharmacy on Oakwood Road in Charleston.

Charleston police allege Julius Finch, 31, Darrell Lamont Harris, 28, Marquis Smith, 25 and James Brown, 23, targeted the pharmacy. They allegedly stole pills and cash. Police said a few of the accused were wearing wigs and other items trying to conceal their identities.

“The CVS itself was targeted by them. They had picked that particular pharmacy and they did rob it,” Charleston Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper previously told MetroNews. “Unfortunately for them, police were quick to respond and actually did converge on them just a few miles from the robbery.”

During Monday’s Hearing, police testified about evidence recovered after the van the men were in was stopped on MacCorkle Ave. in Charleston.

All four remain in the South Central Regional Jail.
