Man, minor connected to string of robberies in Morgantown area in custody

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two people suspected in a series of armed robberies in Monongalia and Preston counties are in custody Monday morning.

A joint operation between the Sheriff’s Department’s from both counties resulted in the arrest of Anthony Santiago 19, of Morgantown, in a wooded area off of Morgans Run Road.

The second suspect is a juvenile woman who’s name has not been disclosed.

The two are believed to be connected to six total break-ins dating to May 10.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department is investigating break-ins that occurred at Lakeview Resort and Conference Center (May 10), the theft of a truck belonging to Lake Glen LLC parked at Cheat Lake Park at Morgans Run Road (May 10), and the Burger King off of Exit 10 on I-68 (May 10). Additionally, the Sheriff’s Department is investigating an armed robbery at the Cheat Lake BFS store (May 13) and the Circle K on Point Marion Road (May 14).

Shortly after the robbery at the Circle K, the Preston County Sheriff’s Office began investigating an armed robbery at the Little Sandy Convenience Store in Bruceton Mills.

The Preston County Sheriff’s Department pursued the suspects on Sunday, May 14, through Maryland. According to police, Santiago and his accomplice then wrecked their vehicle and continued their attempted escape on foot.

Santiago currently awaits arraignment in North Central Regional Jail. The minor suspect has been remanded to a juvenile facility pending further court action.

Additional charges are pending that will relate to a stolen ATV and several stolen golf carts from Lakeview Resort.
