WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., announced Monday additional funds West Virginia will receive to support recovery efforts related to the June 2016 floods.
The $3.2 million in assistance comes from the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program, which is controlled by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Twenty-three people died in last year’s flood. Additionally, a state of emergency was declared across 44 counties.
“This funding will help ensure every West Virginian affected by this flooding is provided the resources they need to recover,” Manchin said in a joint release with Capito.
“I’m proud of the way our state has come together during an incredibly tough time, and I know this additional funding will make a real difference as we continue to help each other move forward,” Capito said.
The new funding brings the total amount of recovery assistance the state has received to more than $107 million.
