CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A 40-year prison sentence has been accepted for the second of three defendants convicted of beating a man to death in Clarksburg in 2015.
Terrance Hilliard, 23, of Clarksburg, pleaded guilty to two felony charges on April 5, 2017 in connection to the death of 29-year-old Dustin Baldwin. Judge Thomas A. Bedell accepted the sentences for Hilliard Thursday morning. He faces an additional 1-5 years in prison for a felony conspiracy charge.
Baldwin was found beaten and unconscious on the porch of his grandmother’s Clarksburg home on August 19, 2015. He died on September 8, 2015, as a result of his injuries.
Terrance Hilliard, 22-year-old Zachary Hilliard, and 21-year-old Kelsi R. Riddle have all been convicted for varying roles in the beating.
Zachary Hilliard previously testified that he and Terrance Hilliard were attempting to track down a man they believed had wrongfully taken money from someone else. He said they didn’t initially realize they were chasing the wrong person until after Terrance Hilliard had already struck Baldwin.
In September 2016, Judge Thomas Bedell sentenced Zachary Hilliard to 32 years for robbery and 1-5 years for conspiracy. In the plea agreement, he agreed to testify against Terrance Ray Hilliard.
Zachary Hilliard is eligible for parole on the robbery charge in eight years and eligible for parole on the conspiracy charge after one year.
Riddle pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge. She faces up to one year in prison. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 8.
