Charleston Police: Adults injured but bullets miss baby in stroller

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police have issued an arrest warrant in connection with a Thursday night shooting at Stadium Place near Laidley Field in Charleston.

Tray Mills is charged with 2 counts of malicious wounding.

Authorities are looking for Trashawn “Tray” Mills, 20, of Charleston. He’s been charged with two counts of malicious wounding. They believe he fired the shots that injured a man and a woman who were walking with a baby in a stroller

Detectives previously arrested Marland Clark, 19, in connection with the shooting. Clark is charged with being a “prohibited person in possession of a firearm.”

Charleston Police Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper said the couple appeared to be the intended targets.

“It wasn’t random,” Cooper said.

According to police, the victims ran up the steps to Huron Terrace carrying the baby. One of the victims, a man, collapsed before they could get to a neighbor.

Both are suffering non-life threatening injuries. The man was shot in the backside, and the second victim, a woman, was shot in the hand.

Neighbors said seven to 10 shots were heard at the time of the incident.

The baby is in custody of Child Protective Services at the grandmother’s request.

Police said Mills should be considered armed and dangerous. Cooper added it’s fortunate the baby wasn’t hit with the gunfire.

“You rarely see that type of recklessness and fortunately the baby was not injured,” Cooper said.
