BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — A police officer killed in the line of duty earlier this week will be remembered in funeral services set for Friday, the Bluefield Police Department announced Wednesday evening.
Lt. Aaron Crook, a nine-year veteran of the department, died early Tuesday morning when his cruiser crashed during a pursuit of a DUI suspect. Other Bluefield officers and a member of the West Virginia State Police was also part of the pursuit.
A visitation service for Crook is scheduled for Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Brushfork National Guard Armory in Bluefield. The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Saturday also at the armory. Burial will be at Restwood Memorial Park in Hinton.
Bluefield Mayor Tom Cole released a statement Wednesday:
“On behalf of all the citizens of Bluefield, we offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Lt. Aaron Crook, who was killed in the line of duty yesterday,” Cole said.
Crook was a veteran of the Marines. He is survived by his wife and two children.
The man Crook and others were pursuing, Morgan Smith Walker, 27, faces a number of charges including DUI causing death.
