Hogs found in distress after parked in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston Police do not anticipate a truck driver will face charges after his load of 150 hogs was found in heat distress on Friday.

The livestock was parked of the Turnpike along MacCorkle Avenue and 42nd Street in Kanawha City. Police were unable to find the driver, even after opening the cab. The truck was towed so the hogs could be brought into a shady area and cooled down with water.

It turns out the trucker was nearby, but had laid down in a patch of grass nearby after suffering some sort of medical episode. He tells police when he rested for a while and returned to the truck, it had been towed.

The hogs’ distress greatly eased when they cooled down. The the truck originated from Ohio and the hogs were on their way to Virginia. The company which owned the hogs was scheduled to pick up the animals and return them to Ohio.
