Funeral services held for fallen Bluefield officer

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Hundreds of people paid their final respects Saturday to a fallen Bluefield police officer who died in the line of duty last week.

Funeral services were held at the Brushfork National Guard Armory in Bluefield for Lt. Aaron Crook, 32, of Summers County.

He had been with the Bluefield Police Department for nine years and was a veteran of the Marines.

Crook was laid to rest at the Restwood Memorial Park in Hinton. The U.S. Marine Corps and more than 100 law enforcement officers honored Crook during a military graveside service there.

Crook died early Tuesday morning when his cruiser crashed during a pursuit of a DUI suspect. Bluefield officers and a member of the West Virginia State Police were also part of the pursuit.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

The man Crook and others were pursuing, Morgan Smith Walker, 27, faces a number of charges including DUI causing death.
