JESSE, W.Va. — Wyoming County investigators are following up leads and trying to determine who set the fire which claimed the life of a man on Cabin Branch early Sunday morning. Terry Dancy, 56, died in the blaze.
“What we know right now for sure is that it was arson,” said Wyoming County Chief Deputy Jimmy White. “Fire was started in two separate places of the house. There was no blunt trauma or anything like that to the body, but the body has been sent off to the state Medical Examiner’s office and we’ll have to get a cause of death.”
The sheriff’s department is assisting the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office. White said they are following up several leads in the case, but cannot reveal any more information about the investigation.
The fire, according to White, was set in the living room and the bedroom of the mobile home. Dancy’s body was discovered in the hallway, indicating the possibility he was trying to get out of the burning home when he was overcome.
“That’s a possibility, but we’re checking out a lot of stuff still,” White said.
The home was in a rural location, but White added there were neighbors living nearby, most of them were members of Dancy’s family.
