Polls open for local elections in Harrison County

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Voters in five municipalities will head to the polls this Tuesday and next Tuesday in City Council elections.

Polls opened Tuesday morning in Clarksburg, Salem, and Lumberport. Bridgeport and Stonewood vote next Tuesday, June 13.

In Clarksburg, ten candidates are running for four City Council spots. Three incumbents including Robert Kaplan, Ryan Kennedy, and Jim Malfregeot are joined on the ballot by seven challengers. Those challengers are long-time City Finance Director Frank L. Ferrari, former Clarksburg Mayor and four-term council member Dan Thompson, former police chief Marshall H. Goff, former mayor and council member Margaret Bailey, and newcomers Chuck Arnett, John “Lopie” Lopez, and Thomas Saunders.

Arnett and Lopez have never previously run for office. Saunders once ran for Harrison County Board of Education in 2002.

Additionally, three candidates are running for two seats on the Clarksburg Water Board. Incumbents Al Cox and Paul J. Howe III are joined by challenger Shane “Hulio” Shreves.

In the town of Lumberport, voters will choose between Richard “Rick Scott”, Jacob Kissella, and Jackie Yeager for Mayor.

Seven candidates are running for five spots on City Council. The candidates are Suzanna Greynolds, David “Crash” Craddock, Richard Desist, Robert DeThomas, Linda Carnes, Linda Hedrick Wright, and Corey Hagan.

Sherry Exline is running unopposed for the City Recorder position.

In Salem, voters will elect a Mayor and Council candidates from one of three wards. Arlen Swiger faces James Samples.

In Ward One, Isaac Ward is running unopposed. In Ward Two, John Golden is running unopposed. In Ward Three, Judy Davisson faces Nancy Siders.

Polls close at 7:30 p.m.
