BridgeValley may occupy more buildings in Montgomery

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The BridgeValley Community and Technical College Board of Governors authorized the school’s president Friday to discuss a term sheet with West Virginia University in connection with the possible occupation of three buildings on the WVU Tech campus in Montgomery.

WVU, which will complete the move of Tech from Montgomery to Beckley this summer, has offered to give BridgeValley three buildings on the western end of the Montgomery campus including an engineering building, lab and facilities building.

WVU, announced in April, it had entered into a 25-year agreement with Kansas-based KVC Health Systems for several other buildings. KVC plans to develop a college campus for young people emerging from foster care.

KVC will apparently now partner with BridgeValley which will offer credited courses for those in the KVC program. BridgeValley already has a campus in Montgomery. KVC hopes to have its own accredited higher education program in the future.

Also at Friday’s BridgeValley BOG meeting:

–the board offered BridgeValley President Eunice Bellinger a two-year contract.

–even though it was on the agenda, there was no new information announced publically about BridgeValley’s ongoing rent dispute at its South Charleston campus located in the West Virginia Regional Technology Park..
