CINCINNATI — West Virginia communities along the Ohio River will participate in a river sweep Saturday.
The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission is sponsoring volunteer projects across six states and 3,000 miles of shoreline.
“We’re looking for volunteers to participate in the Ohio River sweep to clean up the overwhelming number of plastic items that we are finding along the Ohio River,” said commission communications coordinator Lisa Cochran in a video release.
Cochran also said anyone is eligible to volunteer in the event, though they will have to sign a waiver.
“There are over 100 clean-up locations, and people can volunteer at whatever location is convenient to them,” she said. “Each location will have trash bags, a limited number of gloves and free t-shirts for the volunteers.”
There are 17 sites in West Virginia across Brooke, Cabell, Hancock, Jackson, Marshall, Mason, Tyler, Wetzel and Wood counties.
