Pennsylvania volunteer fire chief identified as victim in Barbour County explosion

ARDEN, W.Va. — The man killed in Tuesday’s explosion in Barbour County has been identified as Scott Albertini of McDonald, Pennsylvania, according to numerous published reports.

Albertini, 53, was the Fire Chief of McDonald Volunteer Fire Department. He was working to disassemble a tank when the explosion occurred, according to the preliminary investigation.

Albertini’s death was first reported by the Observer-Reporter in Washington, Pennsylvania. The McDonald Volunteer Fire Department’s website confirmed his passing Tuesday.

Albertini was a contractor for Specialized Professional Services.

Investigators from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, OSHA, and the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s office were on scene Tuesday.

This is the second explosion at the Barbour County industrial site in less than one month. The May 24 explosion killed Midland Resources Recovery President Jan Strmen, 72, of Canada, and employee Justin Marsh, 19, of Philippi.

A third person was seriously injured in the first explosion.
