PSC raising cellphone 911 fees

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Public Service Commission of West Virginia will increase its 911 fee for cellphones beginning July 1.

The commission announced the fee change Thursday, which will increase from $3 to $3.34.

The fee increase is required by state law, and comes after an audit of wireless enhanced 911 fee, which happens every other year.

A portion of the fee funds 911 emergency services for each county to operate its enhanced emergency telephone systems.

Counties commissions bring in revenue for emergency telephone centers by imposing an enhanced 911 fee and from wireless enhanced 911 fees.
