HURRICANE, W.Va. — Hurricane pitcher Aaron Perry has agreed to a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox, opting for that route over a scholarship with Kentucky.
Perry was selected earlier this month in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball draft by Boston — 431st overall.
As a part of the deal, Perry will still have his school paid, if he wishes, when he is done with baseball.
Full details of the contract weren’t disclosed, but Perry reportedly signed an “above slot” deal, worth more than $125,000.
In a season cut short due to a stress fracture in his pitching elbow, Perry went 3-1 with a 0.33 ERA, while hitting .628 from the plate in 43 appearances.
