Manchin to join annual motorcycle ride for fallen service heroes

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D.W.Va.) is encouraging West Virginians to support the 3rd Annual Ride for Fallen Service Heroes next weekend.

The round-trip ride from South Charleston to Millwood is scheduled for Saturday, July 8. The trip concludes with a free community picnic at the West Virginia National Guard Headquarters in Charleston.

“We’ll go up the Ohio River on the West Virginia side, Point Pleasant, come back around for a nice ride and come back to Coonskin armory and we’ll have a big picnic for everybody,” Manchin said on last week’s MetroNews “Talkline.”

Manchin will serve as the Special Guest Road Captain for the ride which benefits the West Virginia National Guard Foundation and the families of fallen West Virginia Service Members.

“Any families that have people that basically have given everything and they are without their loved ones now — this is for them,” Manchin said. “We support those Gold Star families because they are still suffering no matter how long ago they might have lost their loved ones.”

There will also be an establishment of a new Gold Star monument in West Virginia.

“Every penny goes toward sponsoring Gold Star families,” he said.
