Deputies investigate 3 deaths in Greenbrier County

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department is investigating three deaths that happened in less than 24-hours in different parts of the county.

According to Chief Deputy Joshua Martin, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a six-year-old child suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle driven by a family member in the Asbury area. The child, from Ronceverte, died at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. The collision appears to have been a tragic accident, Martin said.

Approximately five hours later, at 9:30 p.m., a man identified as Fred Ramsey, 66, of White Sulphur Springs, was killed after a crash involving his vehicle on Anthony Road near Alvon. The vehicle went off the road and hit a tree.

The third deadly accident was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday when Michael Jason Campbell, 41, fell off a trailer as he was trimming trees on a farm in the Williamsburg area.

“We send all of our condolences out to the families,” Martin said.

This is traditionally a busy week for Greenbrier County deputies with the playing of the Greenbrier Classic and the large crowds associated with the event but Martin said the sheriff’s department is used to handling anything that comes its way.

“Within the past few years with the derecho hitting and the flood last year there are things you can’t prepare for but our guys do a good job at stepping up and doing what they need to do,” Martin said.
