Strong storms cause power outages in north central counties

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Heavy storms through parts of central and north central West Virginia Monday night knocking down dozens of trees and causing power outages for nearly 6,000 customers of Mon Power Company.

The most violent group of storms moved across the U.S. 50 corridor causing the heaviest damage in Doddridge and Harrison counties. There was a tornado warning issued for several minutes by the National Weather Service but no word that a tornado had actually touched down.

There was also a tornado warning issued for parts of Jackson County.

Most of the southern half of the state was not in the path of the storms.
