Pedestrian killed in Kanawha County wreck

BELLE, W.Va. — A deadly wreck involving a female pedestrian in Kanawha County was being investigated on Saturday morning.

Emergency officials reported one person died after being hit by a vehicle on U.S. Route 60 in the Witcher Creek area near the intersection of Kanawha Boulevard and East 21st Street.

The wreck happened before 1 a.m. Saturday and it was around 3:30 a.m. before U.S Route 60 fully reopened to traffic, according to Metro 911.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, the woman was wearing dark clothing and walking in the traffic lane. They also said by the time the driver noticed the woman, they were unable to swerve to avoid her.

The driver called 911 and stayed at the scene until law enforcement arrived. No criminal charges have been filed against the driver.

Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department were leading the investigation.

Crews from both Kanawha County EMS and Belle VFD also assisted at the wreck scene.
