Greenbrier County family awaits word of missing family member

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The family of a Greenbrier County woman is worried about the whereabouts of a missing family member who should have been home Friday.  Deloris Ann Arnold boarded an Amtrak Train in Denver bound for White Sulphur Springs last Wednesday.  That was the last contact she had with family.

“My mother spoke with her on Wednesday, just as she was about to get on the train in Denver,” said Arnold’s granddaughter Kristina Ward. “We haven’t heard from her since.”

The trip was disrupted when the train came into Chicago because of last week’s widespread flooding in the region, forcing the passengers to transition to a bus.  All the family knows is Deloris got off the train and was in line to catch a Greyhound Bus.

“When she didn’t get home Friday, we called the Amtrak Police,” said Ward. “They checked and saw footage of her getting off the train and standing in line.”

Arnold should have boarded the Greyhound bus for Indianapolis, but it’s unclear at this point if that’s what she did.  Ward says they’ve been unable to determine if she’s still in Chicago or possibly got on the wrong bus.

“We don’t know how many Greyhounds because everybody on the train was going to a different place.  She might have gotten on the wrong bus,” said Ward. “We’re trying to get in touch with the Greyhound station in Chicago.  If we could find a spot, we could go looking.”

Adding to the family’s fear is Arnold’s condition, she suffers from the early stages of dementia and may have difficulty communicating where she needs to go. Ward said they were confident though she should have been able to seek help if she found herself confused.

“We were thinking so, we figured she should have encountered somebody and tried to call,” Ward explained. “We don’t know if she took another bus and went somewhere else.”

Investigators along the line are attempting to locate the missing woman and get her back home to White Sulphur Springs.   Arnold is 5 ft. 3 inches tall and weighs around 190 pounds.  She was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers.
