Mon County Commission president charged with DUI

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed to WAJR-AM Monongalia County Commissioner President Ed Hawkins was arrested for DUI over the weekend.

According the sheriff’s department, Hawkins spun his car and hit a guardrail. He allegedly told the deputy he had drunk two glasses of wine an hour earlier. Deputies reported that Hawkins’ eyes were bloodshot and glassy and he had the smell of alcohol on his breath.

Hawkins refused twice to take a breathalyzer test at the police station.

He was arraigned Monday morning for DUI and released on personal recognizance bond.
