OAK HILL, W.Va — A water main break in Fayette County this morning is leaving around 4,000 people on a boil water advisory.

Officials with West Virginia American Water said service will be restored this morning, but residents will stay on the advisory until further notice.  The break has drained the Oak Hill Water storage tank.

A press release from the company says affected communities include Oak Hill, Lochgelly, Summerlee, Minden, Scarbro, Red Star, Hill Top, Carlisle and Green Town.  Residents should boil all water used for cooking, bathing or cleaning before use.

West Virginia American Water also recommends keeping boiled water in a refrigerator for drinking.  Do not use any home filtering systems as they will not give enough protection from the large amount of harmful microorganisms during a break.

You can contact American Water with questions at 1-800-685-8660 or visit their website at amwater.com/wvaw.
