Teen hit by vehicle to be taken off life support

JEFFERSON, W.Va. — The mother of a Kanawha County teenager says her daughter will be taken off life support once her organs are donated.

Shawnee Paxton, 18, of Jefferson, was struck by a vehicle late Saturday night as she rode along U.S. Route 60 (MacCorkle Avenue) in South Charleston.

South Charleston police reported Monday that Paxton had died from the injuries but her mother said the teenager was still alive pending the donations. Shawnna Paxton told WSAZ-TV this is a horrific time for the family.

“This is tearing us apart because they took her from our life but yet I don’t know who is at fault,” Paxton said.

Police said they are continuing their investigation and have not identified the driver of the car that struck the girl around midnight.

Paxton’s mother said her daughter’s spirit will always be with her.

“She faced life at 100 percent,” Paxton said. “She was afraid of nothing.”
