Former Marine dies while fighting in Syria

ORLANDO, Fla. — A former Marine was killed while fighting with a Kurdish militia group against the Islamic State.

David Taylor, 25, had joined the group known as YPG.

According to the Associated Press, Taylor’s family did not know about his plans until he had arrived in Syria last spring.

Taylor grew up in Ocala, Florida, and attended college in Florida and West Virginia before joining the Marines. Taylor’s father told the Associated Press he had been deployed to Afghanistan, Japan, South Korea and had also spent time in Jordan before he was discharged last year.
