Ohio County Sheriff’s Deputy in critical condition

WHEELING, W.Va. — Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard issued a statement Thursday asking for “thoughts and prayers” for a deputy in critical condition.

Howard said “a tragic event involving an Ohio County Deputy occurred” on Wednesday, though he did not explicitly say what happened.

“The Deputy is listed in critical condition and was transported to a hospital outside the area for a higher level of care,” he said in a statement.

Howard added updated information will be released as more is known about what happened.
