Wood County woman sentenced in string of unarmed bank robberies

WHEELING, W.Va. — A Wood County woman could serve more than four years in prison for bank robberies in three states, including several in West Virginia.

Christine Joy Martin, 31, of Davisville, pleaded guilty to three counts of unarmed bank robbery in April. She’ll face 51 months in prison for each count. The sentences are set to run concurrently. Martin will also pay $7,889.44 in restitution.

Unarmed bank robbery carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Martin admitted to robbing Huntington Bank in Marion County of $2,000 on November 4, 2016. She also admitted to robbing WesBanco Bank in Washington County, Pennsylvania, of $250 on December 23, 2016. She additionally admitted to robbing the People’s Bank in Athens County, Ohio of $2,150 on December 27, 2016.

A federal grand jury indicted Martin on December 20, 2016 for a robbery at a United Bank Branch in Morgantown, but the charge was dropped as part of a plea bargain agreement.
