Fairmont man charged in Taylor County shooting

GRAFTON, W.Va. — A Fairmont man is charged with murder in connection the discovery of a body on June 23, 2017 in Taylor County.

Justin Edward Clarke, 27, is accused of shooting 39-year-old Frank Newbraugh. Newbraugh’s body was found near the Taylor County Animal Shelter on Riverside Road late in the evening of June 23. Police believe the shooting took place around 9:30 p.m.

Police believe Clarke was sitting in the backseat of a passenger vehicle when he shot Newbraugh.

According to Taylor County Prosecuting Attorney John Bord, investigators believe Clarke and Newbraugh knew each other. They are not listed as related on the criminal complaint.

According to the criminal complaint, the State Medical Examiner determined Newbraugh was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
