Morgantown Fire Department receives FEMA grant

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — More firefighters will be joining the Morgantown Fire Department.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Friday that the Morgantown Fire Department is the recipient of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant.

The SAFER Grant will provide over $1.5 million over three years to the MFD for strictly personnel decisions, in particular, to increase or maintain the number of trained front-line firefighters in the department.

MFD announced 12 more firefighters will be joining the department, allowing for a new ladder company to be formed within the city.

According to the MFD, the new ladder company will be housed at the Northside Fire Station on Van Voorhis Road.

This is the first time the Morgantown Fire Department has received an award from the SAFER grant program.
