CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety’s Corrections Investigations Division has a new director following consolidations within the department.

William Marshall III is leading the division after more than 25 years with the West Virginia State Police. He was responsible to work on the Interstate Drug Interdiction Team and Workers Compensation Fraud Task Force during this period.

In his new position, Marshall will oversee investigations regarding use-of-force, drug smuggling and other acts of alleged misconduct in the state’s correctional system.

This appointment follows the consolidation of the Division of Corrections, Division of Juvenile Services and Regional Jail and Correctional Facilities Authority.

“Marshall has the education, experience, and talent to lead our investigative team,” Department Secretary Jeff Sandy said in a press release, “Marshall will also be a tremendous asset as we achieve the Governor’s goal of having inmates ready to join the workforce upon departure from incarceration.”

Marshall took his position in July.

“I’m very honored and excited to be part of the DMAPS team,” Marshall said. “There are a lot of talented and intelligent people I’ll be joining to keep our state great. Although this position will have its challenges, I’m very eager to get started and working on our mission.”
