Summers Co. kidnapping suspect turns himself in

TALCOTT, W.Va — A manhunt for a Summers County kidnapping suspect ended Monday morning after he turned himself in to the Summers County detachment of the West Virginia State Police.

Justin Richmond was wanted after a Friday incident in Talcott.  State Police received a call Friday morning of a domestic dispute and possible kidnapping at a residence on Ballangee Road.  The victim was released to a safe location, but Richmond fled before authorities arrived.

Richmond later tried to regain contact with the victim at her mother’s house.  Police responded but Richmond could not be located.  During the investigation, weapons were recovered near the house.  This led police to believe that Richmond was armed and dangerous.

State Police in Summers County announced Monday that Richmond turned himself in at around 9 a.m. Sunday.  Police also received a call for a trailer fire.  The trailer was owned by one of Richmond’s relatives.  Fire authorities are still investigating if he had any connection to the fire.

Richmond is being held at Southern Regional Jail awaiting a hearing with the Summers County Circuit Court.  No further details about the case were available as of Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the crime should call the Summers County detachment of the State Police at (304) 466-2800.
