CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Contractors will begin paving the road to Yeager Airport and conducting emergency slide repairs beginning Thursday.
Governor Jim Justice announced Tuesday the state Division of Highways will conduct the work. The entire project is expected to cost around $160,000.
Yeager Airport Director Terry Sayre said the construction is desperately needed.
“It hadn’t been paved for over 10 years. It just has a lot of patches on top of patches. It just needs done,” Sayre said.
The paving is apart of Jim’s Promise, the governor’s initiative to improve state roads.
“We really appreciate the cooperation from this governor and his staff to help us get this done. It’s something that we’ve been trying to get accomplished for quite some time. We’re glad to see it come to fruition,” Sayre said.
Justice said in a statement, “”When people fly in to West Virginia the first thing they see can’t be a road that’s falling apart. We are so much better than that.”
Sayre said the project will help improve Yeager and the state’s image.
“It’ll help with the image when you land here at the airport,” he said. “They’ll actually see a decent road here now.”
The work is scheduled to be complete by the end of August.
