Virginia man killed in I-64 crash

NITRO, W.Va. — A Virginia man was killed in a crash on Interstate 64 near the Nitro exit sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, police said.

Thomas Zaits of Bland, Va., was pronounced dead shortly after Nitro Police arrived on the scene of the crash mid-morning Wednesday. Someone spotted the wrecked jeep just off the westbound lanes. Police aren’t sure when the crash happened.

A crane had to be used to lift the vehicle back over the guardrail which slowed traffic for about 90 minutes Wednesday morning.

No word yet on what caused the crash. Nitro police are investigating.
