Eastern Panhandle teen killed by train

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — An Eastern Panhandle teenager was struck and killed after running into the path of a train Thursday near Shenandoah Junction Road.

“We cannot tell you definitively whether he was simply distracted or whether it was more severe than that,” Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty told WV MetroNews affiliate WEPM.

Dougherty said they have identified the 17-year-old victim as an area youth but will not release his name because he is a juvenile.

The boy was hit shortly before noon.

The Norfolk Southern Police are conducting the investigation.
