Missing Fairmont State student taken into custody in Oklahoma

MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma — A Fairmont State student, believed to be in “extreme danger” since going missing May 1 in the Huntington area, is in police custody.

Kara Jeffrey, 21, was taken into custody in Oklahoma Thursday.

Jeffrey, who was free on a $35,000 bond following an arrest in February, missed a bond revocation hearing Monday, July 31, in Marion County Circuit Court.

She was charged in February with possession with intent to deliver after police found cocaine in her apartment while executing a search warrant.

Police believed Jeffrey was in “extreme danger” when she was first reported missing. She was believed to be with a man who goes by the alias “Jeff Cooper.” Sgt. Sally Hatten of the West Virginia State Police did not comment on “Cooper’s” alleged involvement in this case — other than to say more information would be released next week.

She has not yet been extradited to West Virginia, according to Hatten.
