Nicewarner waives preliminary hearing

Former Bridgeport High School football coach Josh Nicewarner walks into Harrison County Magistrate Court with his attorney Tuesday.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Former Bridgeport High School football coach Josh Nicewarner chose to waive his right to a preliminary hearing in Harrison County Magistrate Court Tuesday morning.

Nicewarner, 34, who resigned last week as football coach at Bridgeport and physical education teacher at Liberty High School, is facing two felony charges relating to the attempted seduction of a 14-year-old girl.

The Harrison County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office requested that an amendment be made to Nicewarner’s bond conditions that he have no unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18, other than his own children. Magistrate Tammy Marple approved the request.

The case will now be bound to circuit court, meaning Nicewarner’s case will next be heard by a grand jury. The next Harrison County Grand Jury will convene in September.
