Rainy day wrecks in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Heavy rain in Charleston Thursday contributed to a number of traffic wrecks.

A tractor trailer jackknifed near the Yeager Bridge on the West Virginia Turnpike at about 11 a.m. The rig went through the guardrail and over the embankment. Turnpike traffic is expected to be impacted when crews remove the wreckage.

Three people were injured in a separate accident at around midday on Interstate 79 near the Mink Shoals exit. Authorities said the driver hydroplaned and the vehicle flipped over.

The rain was expected to decrease later Thursday.
