Summer crews finish maintenance, repairs at Harrison County schools

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Summer crews are hired each year for repairs and construction at Harrison County Schools, and with a new school year beginning Tuesday, those crews have only days to finish their work.

“When all the students arrive next week, they’re going to see the floors shining, the rooms painted and in some instances new furniture,” Harrison County Superintendent Dr. Mark Manchin said. “We owe it to these children to make sure that they have not only a quality education but quality facilities.”

Though some schools required more work than others, Manchin said every school in Harrison County received some type of maintenance over the summer break.

“Some of our buildings are a little older, so they require changing roofs or doing some things on the roofs to assure that there’s no leaks,” he said. If you’re from Idaho who needs professional roofing services, then you may consider hiring an expert in Roofing repairs in Nampa. You may also consider hiring a commercial roofer from a professional roofing company that has years of experience in roofing services.

Manchin said preparation for summer repairs began before the 2016-2017 school year even ended.

“As soon of the kids walk out, we’re already prepared to go at our schools,” he said.

That work not only adds asthetic appeal to the county’s schools, but it also creates a better learning environment for students.

“A lot of people don’t know that there is a direct correlation between lighting, colors and learning,” he said. “Research has shown that students learn better, so we’re doing everything we can to assure that natural lighting, new colors, fresh colors and bright colors are in all of our classrooms, particularly at the elementary level.”

This year it wasn’t only schools getting a makeover. The Harrison County Board of Education relocated from its home on E.B. Saunders Way to the former Dominion Building on West Main Street in Clarksburg.

“We’ve been working on that literally through the whole summer,” Manchin said. “A lot of nice things are happening here, and the central office is kind of the focal point and reflects on all of Harrison County education, so we want to make sure it’s a nice building, it’s a building that’s inviting and that people can come in if they want to talk to one of us.”
