State police report 1 dead in Hampshire County wreck

SLANESVILLE, W.Va. — A Berkeley Springs man is dead following a head on crash in Hampshire County.

At about 4:20 a.m. Monday, State Police were called out for a report of a two-vehicle head on collision on WV Route 29 near Slanesville.

Reports indicated Wesley Groves, 27, of Augusta, was in the northbound lane and Benjamin Griffith, 25, of Berkeley Springs, was traveling in the southbound lane and crossed the center line into the path of Groves’ vehicle.

Griffith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Groves was taken to Winchester Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, according to troopers.
