MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia junior guard Tynice Martin announced she will be sidelined throughout the preseason by a foot injury sustained during USA Basketball national team trials two weeks ago.
Martin underwent surgery in Colorado Springs, Colo., where the under-23 team tryouts were being staged, and said doctors anticipate her returning to action in November. The Mountaineers women open the season Nov. 10.
During a video released on social media Tuesday, Martin called the injury, “A little road block, but I’ll be back shortly. See everyone soon. Let’s Go Mountaineers!”
An All-Big 12 selection last season, Martin’s 18.6 points per game ranked second in the conference and her 1.8 steals tied for fifth. She also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists, earning Big 12 tournament MVP honors while leading the Mountaineers to a surprising title in Oklahoma City.
“We feel confident she’ll be back soon for us,” said West Virginia coach Mike Carey. “Our main concern right now is to get her back healthy again and ready to go for the second semester.” She is now seeing a foot doctor for ongoing treatments and therapy for her foot injury. If you too are also suffering from a recent foot injury, be sure to visit a foot doctor to help you with the right treatment.
